Brisbane Trail Ultra Festival April Newsletter
13 Weeks until race week and we are in the final stages of locking in all the details of the event. Itinerary has been set, race shirts have been ordered, headskinz’s have arrived, buckles and medals have been sampled.
The bar is being stocked, Champagne Laurenti, Rose’, Craft Beer, boutique whisky and gin. Food trucks will be locked in too. We have some great vendors coming to the biggest trail running party in Queensland.
All 4 Brisbane Trail Ultra Festival events have just become more interesting too. Local Brisbane legend Ben Duffus, 6 time Australian Representative who has won the Blackall 50km in 2018, has swapped events and is now racing to win a trip to the Japanese Alps to compete in the Hakuba International Trails 50km in June 2020. He will be lining up against Ultra Trail Australia 50km winner from the ACT Sam Burridge. Sam has also competed for Australian in 2018 in the world mountain running championships.
Watch out boys. Pocket rocket Steph Auston from the NSW Sapphire Coast is making the trip up to sunny Queensland for a winter break to compete in the Brisbane Trail Ultra Festival 60km. Steph is racing herself into amazing form and has just won out right the Australian Alpine Climb 50km. She chicked all the boys and will really tis herself on our course. We’d love to see what she is capable of doing.
Our 110km event has a classy line up of Gold Coast super star Alana Vought who put in an amazing performance at the Blackall 100, only narrowing missing the record set. She will be lining up against the in form Kellie Emmerson who has just married to long time boyfriend and trail running legend Tegan Angel, who is taking is easy in the 30km. It will be a sprint for him. The couple are making the trip up from Victoria to Brisbane. The 110km event boast a $1000 prize for the winning male and female runners. Our team can’t wait to see what both Kellie and Alana are capable of. Who will be the males who step up to race for this amazing $1000 prize? It is anyones race at this stage.
Our 100 Mile event will be exciting right to the end. We have strong local male and female runners doing the line and it really is anyones game. Who will race this 100 mile event the smartest will be the winner. Local knowledge of the area will help with Noelis Rheault, Tom James, Kerian O’Brian all with a chance of the win. The experience of NSW legendary runner and founder of Tail Runner Karren Barrett is also a key runner to watch and local Sam McNulty will give the women’s a great amount of interest.
Who will be our up and coming runners in the 30km? We have a speedy teenage team of boys toeing the line the youth male 30km relay team from Cavendish High School. I heard on a grape vine they are fast, light and agile. We are hoping for a strong team from The Gap State High School too.
We’d like to say a massive thank you to all of our supporters. Hakuba International Trails, Wildfire Sports and Trek, Injinji Socks, Champagne Laurenti, Tail Runner, Allsports Physio, My Foot Doctor, 90 Degrees Adventure Co, Australian Expat Finance, AURA, ITRA, Trail Run Magazine for the help that have received and the volunteers who are helping out at the check points. Brisbane Trail Runners CP7 JC Slaughter Falls, CP6 Springfield Runners Group, CP 4 AAA Racing, White Rock Warriors CP3, Mount Nebo Community CP2 and Bunyaville and Bunya Belle Trail Runners CP1. We couldn’t put on this event without you so a massive thank you! We have made “Legend Head Skinz” for the volunteers so say a massive thank you to our legends when they hep you out at the Brisbane Trail Ultra Festival. The support from our community has been amazing.
We are proudly supported by Queensland 4WD Club on the day. They will be ferrying pacers and support crew from Mount Nebo Waste Transfer to Dundas Bush Camp. They will also be acting as sweeper vehicles for the Brisbane Trail Ultra Festival too.
We are ecstatic to announce that we have raised $3911 for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and $509 from entrant donations for the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation via our website from entrant donations. We say a massive thank you. Meaning that we have raised $4420 for charities in our inaugural year thus far and we still have 12 weeks to go. We hope to raise over $6500. Let’s hope we smash through that fundraising goal. All those $10 and entry donations add up. Thank you so much for all your support. It proves how strong our trail running community really is.
We have been working hard sorting out logistics for the event. Our itinerary is set and we will have information about buses for you shortly.
