Brisbane Trail Ultra®

Volunteer, and become a Legend

Become a Legend, Volunteer for the BTU

The Brisbane Trail Ultra® is a massive trail ultramarathon event, crossing through different councils, National Parks, Sout East Queensland Water land. We also use a traffic management team, plus police special forces to keep our runners safe on the streets.

We also have a team of medics, two roaming medics plus a medic at each checkpoint, the top of Township Break, and at the finish line. We support our medics with our Remote Athlete Support Team, run by All American Wheeling Volunteers.

To increase our safety more we also supply all our BTU-Ultra Runners with GPS Trackers thanks to Track Me Live.

We are proud to be known in the trail ultramarathon running industry, from Police as far away as the Northern Territory, as one of the safest trail running events in Australia.

We are supported at each checkpoint by either a running club or a local business.

Become a Legend

We invest in a massive Brisbane Trail Ultra safety team, believe in building a strong team that will continue to grow as the Brisbane Trail Ultra marathon grows. We need help from volunteers, just like you to really make the Brisbane Trail Ultra® marathon really special.

We need you to help us make

Brisbane Trail Ultra® special.

WE KNOW WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE

We are very much at the pointy end of organising and we know that there is no way we can have an event without you! We’ve been getting your race packs sorted and have had the wonderful help of our friends and family. But we know an event of this size requires more than just a handful of people and it is definitely the volunteers that make an event. We are so fortunate to have the love of our amazing running groups and also the experience of much-loved race directors Alun and Susannah from AAA Racing helping us. If you can spare a couple hours, or if you have friends out there you’re keen on cheering on, please contact us!

BECOME A BRISBANE TRAIL ULTRA LEGEND AND VOLUNTEER AT THE BTU

The Brisbane Trail Ultramarathon was a huge success over the past three years and we owe this to our selfless 300 strong volunteers who helped us for the Brisbane Trail Ultra marathon. This year we hope to double the number of volunteers to make the Brisbane Trail Ultra marathon is a bigger and better event.

Volunteers will receive a Legends Headskinz and in addition Bush Heritage Australia has mentioned they will also have some goodies for helpers.

We’d love your help and we really appreciate anything that you can help with. Here are some roles we specifically are looking for your help with

CHEER SQUAD/ROVING MARSHALS/COFFEE STRIP TASTE TESTERS!!

We need cheer squads everywhere but most importantly along La Trobe, Given Terrace, and Suncorp Stadium. The runners will be towards the end of their race and would love that extra energy to help them home. We need your best cheers to cheer on runners having run almost 30km, 60km, 110km, and the unthinkable 160km! So with this said, the runners will also be more fatigued at these points so an extra pair of eyes and ears to help them navigate through the suburban streets would be helpful. So we need you! to cheer on our runners, keep them safe and help them go the right way. For all the runners out there tapering for another event, why not do a jog up and down these sections? help keep the runners safe and also get a couple of km in there too! Bring the family and dress up! we had superwoman out in 2019 and she was a huge hit!! Thanks, Superwoman (I hear she’s running this year so I’d love to make sure she gets as many cheers as she gave out)!!

The most important times will be around noon on Saturday until sunset and then again on Sunday morning from 5am to noon. Please contact us if you have any time you are able to help.

ROAD MARSHAL/INTERSECTION MARSHALS

Along with being an amazing cheer squad, there’s an added task of ensuring the runners cross the roads safely. In other words, we need you to make sure the runners are safe when crossing a road! If you see a car coming just let the runners know there is a car coming and to stop, wait and give way to traffic. The runners are reminded in our safety briefing and our rules that they need to listen to your instructions and give way to cars when you have told them to. Runners will be happy to see your friendly face as it is so reassuring when they have you, our friendly volunteer, cheering them on. Bring a bell or whistle and cheer them on!
There are also some spots out there that can be more difficult to navigate, especially when runners are starting to get tired. We would love to have some spare sets of eyes at these points to help us direct runners and ensure they don’t go the wrong way. We would love to have people at the peak times to help out. Please send us a message if you are able to help us.
The main areas we need you is at Jolly’s lookout, Enoggera Reservoir, Gap Creek Rd intersection, top of Kokoda Trail Mt Coot-Tha, top of Python Trail Mt Coot-Tha, entrance to the Bardon Trails and at Suncorp Stadium on the Saturday and Sunday!

SWEEPERS

We need fit, confident runners with a current first aid certificate to sweep our 4 courses. If you have a friend or a group of you that would like to sweep together, please let us know or we will look for another sweeper to help you with this role, as well as swap trail stories while you are out there. Your role will be to keep an eye on the back runner and make sure they are safe and doing well. We will be in constant contact with you during the race and making sure you’re ok and enjoying yourself. You’ll be also helping us remove all Brisbane Trail Ultra markers from the course and pick up any rubbish that you see along the course. We want to leave no trace in our beautiful forests and we thank you for helping us do this! All American Wheeling, our 4WD crew, will be supporting you through the “drive-able” fire trails so please also leave any markers with them!
We love you to sweep one section of the trail, from check point to check point. We have a few sections we still need covered so if you are an experienced trail runner and looking for a bit of low exertion running, please contact us.

FORERUNNERS

Sadly in 2019, we had a fair amount of course tampering in the urban sector of the trail and on the street coming into the city. In 2020 we changed our signage to help reduce tampering but still had a few arrows removed. So for 2021, just to be sure and to make sure our runners have the best possible experience we are looking for runners to run out in front of the lead runners to check the course in the Bardon, Paddington, and City Sections. If you want a run and help out by checking the course markers and re-marking the course if it has been tampered with, this is the perfect job for you. You’ll also be the first to see the elite runners coming through. What times? We’d love to have you on Saturday, 11 am from Corra-Mulling Park to JC Slaughter Falls. Then from JC Slaughter Falls to the finishing line on Sunday morning at 4 am. Get in touch with us!

BRISBANE TRAIL ULTRA START LINE SET UP- CORRA-MULLING PARK, THE GAP

If you are a great starter, early bird, or have entered one of our races and would still like to help at the Brisbane Trail Ultra, we’d love to have you!

Due to the additional tasks required in this unusual 2020, there have been a lot more processes that have needed to occur. We need help with getting GPS trackers on runners, getting the start line set up, and then packing up on Saturday and then again on Sunday.

Red+Bull+Start+Line.jpeg

We will need help with setting up the start line chute, start line arch, and flags around the park. We will be needing volunteers to weigh in our 110km and 100mile runners at the start line.

If you’re running on Sunday, it is a great opportunity to see JC Slaughter Falls CP6 our busiest checkpoint in action, and help your fellow runners. We will need helpers from 4 am to 11 am on Saturday and then again from 4 am to 10 am on Sunday. Contact me if you have some time!

BTU20 Winner.jpg

If any of these legend roles suit you, please email me. It is a lot of time that the runners are spending out on-course and as such, it is a long time we will need your help. If you can spare an hour or if you can spare a lot, we really appreciate your time. We’d love to thank you all in advance for your support and for helping us make the Brisbane Trail Ultra® the international event it has become.

If you’d like to help out in any way please email me.
