Brisbane Trail Ultra - May Update

We at ehe Brisbane Trail Ultra, Spartan Trail World Championship HQ want to ensure you we're staying on top of all the events that Mother Nature has been challenging us with. We are in constant communications with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and South East Queensland Water (SEQ Water) regarding track conditions and ongoing maintenance in the parks. We have already set together multiple contingency plans, which are ever evolving to cover any track closure that the course may have during our event. Rest assured we will keep you updated with these changes.

In the past years, we have had the pleasure of hosting mostly to our Queensland running community and very much appreciate the support we continually receive from you all. We have had several Australian states rejoin us in some capacity, but this year are looking forward to welcoming all of our fellow Aussies.

As part of the Spartan World Championship, the Brisbane Trail Ultra would again like to see our international running family join us and we're very excited to see there are many flying in from Spain, Kenya, India, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and the USA.

With this in mind, as with every runningof the Brisbane Trail Ultra, we forge ahead in an endeavour to deliver a safe and world class event.

Our current wet weather contingency course is in the pipeline. And we will keep you posted on any course changes required. Please be patient with us as any changes also come with it submissions for approval from relevant bodies and maps may take a little longer to finalise.

We’ve had some fantastic news on the phone today that the currently closed for the demolition of the toilet facility, Boombana Track will be open for our event, and we may even be lucky enough to have the stunning West Side Track also available in time. This track has been closed for two years due to a landslide. Ironically it may be open in time for our event this year; fingers are crossed. SEQ Water has given us a glimmer of hope for the Gold Creek Section of the Course. Let’s all pray to the trail running gods for favourable weather between now and event day.

Our current alternate wet weather routes only affect BTU60, BTU110, BTU100Mi.

BTU30, BTU20, BTU10 are currently un

affected.

We are putting together the GPX and KML Files for each variable for each distance. Rerouting the course takes some time, so please be patient with us.

We will not release the Contingency Plan Routes until the plan is required to prevent confusion. This will be confirmed at the Safety Briefing the Friday Evening Before the Event.

We’ve been through a similar situation in 2021, with torrential rain the week before our event. To protect the condition of the trails in 2021, we marked all the “Breaks” on foot and only allowed the All American Wheeling 4WD onto the “Trail Roads”. We were also asked to restrict the AAW 4WD to the roads for the duration of the event. Keep this in mind.

It is time to update your footwear with shoes with fantastic grip to prevent slips and injuries. Shona loves the La Sportiva Helios III and La Sportiva Lycan II & Cora’s choice are the La Sportiva Bushido II and Ultra Raptors. We highly recommend you use poles too to prevent slipping during your ascent and descent. Poles will help to protect the trail for those runners coming behind you. Drop into K2 Base Camp, and check out their range when you have your mandatory gear check. We ask that you invest in high quality thermals and wet weather kit in case you need it! It may save your life.
