BTU100Mi Course Change, weather forecast and Event Update.

Race week is finally here! If you still haven’t entered, sign up and join the BTU party.

We hope you are as excited and PUMPED as the BTU team is!This year we will have two BTU-Ultra-Party Activations that we’ve like to invite you too.

  1. CP6 - Salomon Golden Trail Series Party, between 11:15am - 4:30pm.

  2. Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park, bewteen 5pm and 10pm Saturday

Just show your race Bib and we will look after you with complimentary meal, and a drink.

Now onto the serious stuff.

It wouldn’t be an ultra-trail event of this scale with some last-minute course changes.

Due to the recent much-needed burns in the D’Aguilar National Park, the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Team has checked the course and determined that Taylor Break is unsafe for BTU100Mi.

So what does this mean?

BTU10, BTU20, BTU30, BTU60 - No Change.

BTU110 —Light Line/Double Break Timing Mat and water stop have has moved to the Township Break and Light Line Junction.

BTU100Mi Runners will now check into CP3 Maiala, then cross Mt Glorious Rd (with their Hi Vis Vest on) and then to a STUNNING Rainforest loop of the Eastern Maiala Picnic Ground. This trail is probably the MOST BEAUTIFUL TRAIL IN QUEENSLAND. It is like a rainforest garden, and I recommend you tell your support crew to head across and do the circuit. The runners will then return to CP3, grab another drink or more food, say their goodbyes, and then head along the BTU100Mi course as usual until the Cabbage Tree Rd descent is completed. Instead of turning left onto Taylor Break, the runners will continue straight, use Job 6, Light Line, and connect with the BTU100Mi Course at the Township Break/Light Line junction, where a Timing Mat and water stop will be placed to clock you before your Township Break Descent. We think you’ll LOVE the change.

The Capra App has been updated. Please take the time now to refresh your app.

Course Tampering

We do our best to have the best possibly marked course for the duration of the event. Unfortunately, there may be course tampering during our event.

BTU110 and BTU100Mi runners will be asked to show the CAPRA App when leaving CP2.

BTU60 runners will be asked to show their Capra App when Leaving CP5.

All runners may be asked to show their CAPRA app at the finish line of their event. If a runner is found without the CAPRA app downloaded, they will have an automatic 2 hour time penalty added to their race time.

Take the time now to download the Capra App, it is free, and there is no excuse for not having it.

Brisbane Trail Ultra is focused on women’s safety. We highly recommend trying out the Shokz Open Ear headphones at Friday's Wild Earth Stand at the BTU Festival. We LOVE Shokz Open Ear headphones because you can still hear your surroundings. You can be bopping away and chatting to people around you or on a phone call and still be able to listen to runners approaching or the general public. I was marking the course in my set, and I can still have a conversation with them and engage with those around me; most people were wondering who I was chatting with! So give them a try at the Wild Earth stand.

Salomon Aus/NZ will be at the BTU Festival with test shoes to try. So pop down on Friday and give the new Genesis a burn.

Hammer Nutrition Australia (HNA) is BACK!

Hammer Nutrition Australia has supported the BTU since 2019! The friendly team will be hosting stand and you will be able to grab your last minute nutrition from the friendly Hammer Team.

Take this opprotunity to pick their brains and discover what’s in the extensive HMA range. We love the following items;

We hope you grabbed your can of Red Bull Energy Drink at rego. If not, no stress, you can collect a can from the start line of your event or out on the BTU Course. We will have Red Bull Sampling at CP6 Mt Coot-tha car park between 11am and 1pm. So pop on down and give it a try, and discover what the hype is all about.

Time to switch to Smartwool and enjoy the natural wool feeling.

Smartwool was founded in 1994 in Steamboat Springs, CO, we were the first outdoor company to create performance Merino wool ski socks, revolutionising the category and forever changing the way outdoor enthusiasts viewed their feet. Since then, they’ve continued to innovate and perfect our craft, pushing the boundaries of what's possible with Merino wool.

Merino wool is the key ingredient in almost every item Smarwool make. It's soft, manages moisture, regulates temperature, and resists odors. Merino wool is what makes our base layers, hiking socks, running socks, and other outdoor apparel so incredibly comfortable and effective in any condition and why we love them so much!

Thank You to Australian Expatriate Finance for sponsoring the prize money for the males for the BTU100Mi, BTU110 and BTU30.

Thank You to THE EXPATRIATE for sponsoring the prize money for the females for the BTU100Mi, BTU110 and BTU30.

Brisbane has put on an absolute show for our guests this winter with mild conditions ranging from 15 - 23 degrees Friday and Saturday and 16 - 27 degrees on Sunday in Brisbane.

Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious are also mild conditions for the event. Foul weather kit won’t be required for any event at this stage, this will be confirmed at 5:30pm on Friday at our safety briefing.

We highly recommend that any ultra runner on the course change out of their daytime sweaty gear before they head into the night to avoid getting cold.

Runners getting cold is the number one reason why runners DNF the BTU.

Below is the forecast for Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious. Traditionally, the estimates for the highs are correct, but the lows are incorrect and may be more like 4, 5 and 6 degrees instead of 11 and 12 degrees. Please prepare for colder overnight lows than forecast for BTU110 and BTU100Mi runners. Please also inform your support crew to run up; they may be more comfortable in Ski Gear.
