Wings For Life World Run
Congratulations to Red Bull Australia for hosting such a wonderful event and in doing so, raise awareness and funds for spinal cord injury research. 100% of the registration fees go directly to research. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Brisbane App run and met some very inspirational people. See you at Wings for Life 2023.
HOT OFF THE PRESS!
We are super excited to announce Tony Rodriguez,
Mexico’s Men’s 🇲🇽 100Mile Record Holder to Race BTU100Mi.
Stay tuned for more information about Tony in the coming weeks!
It’s Your Final Call for Race Bibs Names, Country of Origins, and swapping between events to have the correct name and race distance on your race bib.
We are also asking you to take the time to jump on the Onetime Website and check your registration and make sure you are entered. This goes especially for the deferred runners from the 2020 and 2021 events. The easiest way to find your entry is to visit the Onetime Website and click on the participant list. We have also allocated Bib Numbers to everyone who has entered thus far. Jump on the website and check you
If you will be using a pacer, take this time to ask them to jump on the Onetime Website and enter, they will need to enter themselves as they will have to fill out the Health Screen Form.
To steam line your registration process, this year we will not have Printed Numbered Pacer Bibs, we will manually write on the Your Bib Number to onto the Pacers Bib. The Pacer’s Bib will just have a P_______ followed by Blank Space to write your bib number on it.
If you can’t see your name on the start list, please email Shona, she will help you with your entry.
Mandatory Gear Checks - BTU100Mi, BTU110, BTU60
You can now go into K2 Base Camp and have your mandatory gear checked for the BTU60, BTU110 and BTU100Mi, please take the time now to check the mandatory gear list for your event and make sure that you have everything that is required for your event. This will save time at K2 and a drive back home again!
It has been one incredibly wet year thus far, and to be prudent, we have made one small change to the Mandatory Gear List. We will now require all Thermals/Base Layers, Tops, Pants, Gloves, Beanies and Fleeces to be stored in a dry bag for the duration of your event if you are not wearing them.
Take the time to test out your wet weather kit and make sure it is fully waterproof and will keep you dry for the duration of your event. The biggest reason for a DNF in wet conditions is runners getting cold.
BTU100Mi and BTU110 Changes Below
1x Thermal Long Sleeve Top. Must be called “Thermal or Base Layer”, not just a compression top 200gms in a dry bag or zip lock bag
1x Thermal /Base Layer long sleeve pants.* in a dry bag or zip lock bag
1x Beanie, balaclava or tubular bandana.* in a dry bag or zip lock bag
1x Full fingered “Thermal” gloves.* in a dry bag or zip lock bag
In the event of hypothermic conditions, the following may be added to the mandatory gear list and may be required to be picked up at later checkpoints leading into the night to prevent hypothermia*
1x Fleece top* in a dry bag or zip lock bag
BTU60 Changes Below
1x Thermal Long Sleeve Top. Must be called “Thermal” or “Base Layer” not just a compression top in a dry bag or zip lock bag
FOUL WEATHER GEAR LIST
In the event of foul weather where runners are at risk of becoming hyperthermic, we will add the below items to the mandatory gear list. We will keep our athletes updated on the weather forecast the week prior to the event.
1x Beanie, Balaclava, or tubular bandana in a dry bag or zip lock bag
1x Full fingered “Thermal” gloves in a dry bag or zip lock bag
There is no gear check required for the BTU30, BTU20, and BTU10. Runners who are racing the BTU30 and BTU20 will need to Wear a High Vis Vest for the road crossings and shared pathways at South Bank. BTU20 and BTU30 Runners will be running past the Police and Traffic Management and they will be expecting you to have your High Vis Vest on by the time to reach them.
Pacers also do not need a gear check, however, they are required to carry the mandatory gear for the section they are pacing their runner on. There has been an addition to the Pacer Rules.
4. Pacers must carry all the mandatory gear that is required on the course. If a pacer is found without the required mandatory gear for the section they are pacing, the runner will be penalised with a 2 Hour Time Penality. The 2 Hour Time Penality will be added to their runner’s finishing time. The pacer and the runner will have to remain at the checkpoint until the mandatory gear can be added their the pacer’s kit. If the required mandatory gear can be located and added to the pacer’s kit, the pacer will be removed from the course and will have to arrange their own travel to the finish line at their own expense.
This rule is to ensure that the pacers have all their mandatory kit on them without the need for a mandatory gear check. It is a wet year and we want all our runners and pacers who are on the course to be safe.
Great! We anticipate that these changes will streamline the registration process for you and make sure you make it to the top of the Suunto Stair Climb safe and dry.
Take care, stay safe
