Planned burns and potential course changes
The Australian countryside is quite remarkable, and with the extraordinarily wet weather we’ve had, there has been an equally extraordinary amount of growth and potential kindling for fire season. As such, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services have taken the opportunity to back burn during this perfect weather. Controlled burns reduce the chances of severe fires during the dry summer fire season; as the name implies, are controlled and managed and lit in very specific regions. It has been several years since a planned burn in these areas and we at the Brisbane Trail Ultra are in full support of these burns. The future safety far outweighs the seemingly minor changes that we make to the course.

As of yesterday, a controlled burn is in progress in the Northbrook region of the D’Aguilar National Park. We have word that Seqwater is also looking at taking advantage of this perfect weather to perform a controlled burn around Gold Creek Reservoir and its surrounds. The type of burn is to be decided and will be highly dependent on the weather. These areas only affect the ultra events. BTU10, BTU20, BTU30 courses are not affected.
